Special Educational Needs
‘A pupil has SEN where their learning difficulty or disability calls for special educational provision, namely provision different from or additional to that normally available to pupils of the same age.’ (SEN Code of Practice 2014: page 94) SEN code of practice
The new Code of Practice (2014) covers the 0-25 age range and gives guidance on taking a graduated approach to identifying and supporting pupils with SEN under the heading of SEN Support.
Tavistock Church Schools’ Federation’s SEND provision is co-ordinated, delivered and reviewed through our Student and Family Support Team (SAFS) which has adopted a graduated response with a focus on effective support to enable pupils with SEND to succeed in their learning. This graduated response is outlined in our ‘SAFS Referral Pathway’ and ‘Summary of SEND provision’ documents which can be found on our school’s website.
In order to help us determine whether children need extra help we continually monitor the progress and achievements of all our pupils and liaise with their parents and carers. We also involve the children in talking about their learning behaviours and setting targets. Some children and young people with SEND can be identified at birth whilst other difficulties only become evident as children grow and develop.
